Double Fine’s next game about a lighthouse looks like a Keeper

Double Fine’s next title after Psychonauts 2 was revealed at long last at the Xbox Games Showcase. Called Keeper, this adventure game about a walking lighthouse and a bird companion in a dreamlike world will arrive on October 17 for Xbox and PC.

Near the end of the Xbox Games Showcase, we got a surprise reveal of what Double Fine has been working on since it released Psychonauts 2 in 2021. Keeper has a distinctly Double Fine look and feel to it, from the designs to the basic premise of a walking lighthouse to the offbeat and bizarre world it inhabits. This will be a game told entirely without dialogue set in a world long after humans have gon extinct. The lighthouse we play as has mysteriously come to life and is drawn towards the center of the island where a mountain stands tall. The main mechanic appears to be directing light towards animals, plants, and objects to interact in various ways.

Traveling with the lighthouse, and helping to solve puzzles, is a bird creature that had been taking shelter there before it started moving. There are also hints of some encroaching evil on the island, which we only get glimpses of.

The game’s Creative Lead is Lee Patty, who previously worked on Stacking, Headlander, RAD, and many more. For Keeper, however, Lee wanted to create a game less gameplay focused and more atmospheric. The game’s inspiration was largely influenced by the 2020 global pandemic and the team asking themselves “if our time came ot an end, what would be next for life on earth?” Based on the fact that the trailer had no combat and instead highlighted all the unique creatures and landscapes, Keeper should appeal to those who enjoy more introspective games that are open to interpretation.

Keeper will be released on October 17, 2025, for Xbox and PC.

If you like sims, strategy games, or driving various vehicles, you're in luck with Xbox Game Pass in September. Xbox announced the games coming to its subscription service in the first half of the month, and it includes a seemingly random, smaller list of releases that hones in on a couple of specific player types.

The big addition from an Xbox perspective is Age of Mythology: Retold, which is hitting the platform at launch on September 4. The real-time strategy game is published by Xbox Game Studios, so it's of course making a day-one appearance. It's developed in part by World's Edge, the makers behind the Age of Empires series, but instead of real-world armies, you'll pit mythological figures against each other.

With its Activision Blizzard acquisition, Microsoft got access to some highly successful franchises, like Diablo and Call of Duty. It also got more casual, mobile titles, like those from the Candy Crush franchise, thanks to Activision Blizzard subsidiary King. Microsoft confirmed to The Verge on Friday that testing has begun on a "browser-based mobile store." It looks like it'll soon be available to Xbox Insiders, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from Xbox enthusiast account Klorbrille. The post links to a site that has "mobilestore" in the URL and a "Coming Soon" banner.

The next Harry Potter game is shaping up to be just like any EA Sports title. A new gameplay trailer for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions gave us a small peek at its single-player and multiplayer modes, which will take you to the Quidditch World Cup.

The game first off has a career mode that is similar to single-player modes you'd find in EA Sports games, where you take your character to different arenas before eventually getting to the Quidditch World Cup. It's unclear if any of it is as in-depth as, say, EA Sports College Football 25, but there is a character creator where you can make your own player or choose from series figures like Ron Weasley, Harry, and Draco Malfoy.
