On Thursday, the actor took to his Instagram and gave fans a new look at his suit from his forthcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. “Happy Birthday America! Have a great 4th, see you soon,” Mackie wrote in the caption. Mackie is wearing a darker and stealthier version of Captain America’s red, white, and blue suit as he wields the iconic shield in his right hand.

At the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed the shield to Sam Wilson (Mackie), handing over his duties as Captain America in the MCU. Wilson fully embraced his new Captain America persona at the end of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Mackie will headline Phase Five’s Captain America: Brave New World. Brave New World’s ensemble includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as Sabra, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Giancarlo Esposito will appear in a villainous role. Additionally, Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Julius Onah directs Captain America: Brave New World from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Matthew Orton was later brought in to help rewrite the script. The filming of Captain America: Brave New World began in March 2023 and wrapped in late June 2023. Despite a projected May 2024 release date, Brave New World was pushed to 2025 because of extensive reshoots, which include new action sequences.

Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World: How many post-credits scenes are there?
Anthony Mackie poses dramatically as Captain America in a still from the movie "Captain America: Brave New World."

It usually goes without saying that a Marvel movie will feature an extra scene or two as the credits roll. Many fans expect a lot from Captain America: Brave New World, since the film is expected to set up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Sam Wilson and his allies fight to stop a conspiracy that threatens to launch World War III, the movie introduces the element Adamantium, an essential part of Wolverine's origin story in Marvel Comics. On top of that, the film has revisited both the Celestial Tiamut, making it the source of the Adamantium, and the Avengers getting back together with Sam as their new leader.
All these building blocks have laid the foundation for things like the next two Avengers movies and even the X-Men's debut in the MCU. With the next two Avengers movies just around the corner, Brave New World has built up Sam to lead Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the fight to maintain peace as the new Captain America. All in all, there is a lot to look forward to after the events of Brave New World, and what the film reveals during the credits hints at a dark future for Sam and the Avengers.

Anthony Mackie has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. Marvel Studios has also been setting up Mackie's character, Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, to be the new Captain America since the end of Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Nearly six years later, Mackie will return to the big screen in Captain America: Brave New World as the new face of that particular franchise. And Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is hopeful that fans will fully accept Mackie as the new Cap after that film.

Via GamesRadar+, Feige recently attended a press conference for Brave New World where he shared his thoughts about cementing the idea that Sam Wilson is the right man to carry on the legacy of the first Captain America, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

The Marvel movies lost something when they lost Steve Rogers
Chris Evans looks into the distance heroically in a still from the movie The Avengers.

“You’re not Steve Rogers,” growls Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross with signature Harrison Ford crankiness in Captain America: Brave New World, the new Marvel movie coming to theaters next week. It’s a point the man he’s addressing, the man in the stars and stripes, confidently concedes. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) spent some of his Disney+ vehicle The Falcon and the Winter Soldier doubting his fitness to carry the shield Rogers, the original Captain America, passed down to him. In Brave New World, Sam has fully assumed the mantle of his mentor, and judging from scenes of Mackie swooping through the air on mechanical wings, he’s going to do the whole national superhero thing his own way. He’s not trying to be Steve.
