Unfortunately, the final weekend in May doesn’t have the most enticing lineup of new movies to stream.
The most prominent addition this week is Captain America: Brave New World on Disney+, but that’s pretty far from peak MCU. And the only real alternative this week is Prime Video’s The Fire Inside, a boxing drama based on a real life story. There’s bound to be better options heading into June, but for now, we’ll take what we can get.
You can find these films and more below among the best new movies to stream right now.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
There may be a great version of Captain America: Brave New World somewhere, but it isn’t in this film. All of the scenes with Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder were Frankensteined into Brave New World during the reshoots, and they’re better than anything else in the film. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is still settling in as Captain America when the new President of the United States, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford) asks him to set aside their differences and reform the Avengers. Before they can even try to attempt that, Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) brings the world to the brink of war and manipulates Sam’s friend, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), and other pawns to get his revenge on Ross.
Mufasa: The Lion King (2024)
Mufasa is one of the most iconic characters in the Disney Vault, so why not do a live-action/CGI prequel to The Lion King that tells his story? Right? Naturally, Disney ties in the classic characters by using Rafiki to tell the story of young Mufasa to Simba and Nala’s daughter, as well as Timon and Pumbaa.
The tale follows Mufasa as an orphaned cub, alone and close to death when he’s found by Taka, who just happens to be heir to a royal bloodline. Suddenly, destiny is rewritten.

The Fire Inside (2024)
Can you imagine living out your dream only to discover that it’s not good enough? It happened to Claressa Shields (Ryan Destiny), the first American woman to win a gold medal in boxing at the Olympics. Claressa worked tirelessly with her coach, Jason Crutchfield (Brian Tyree Henry), to become one of the best boxers in the world. But after the Olympics fade into memory, Claressa is shocked when they fail to open doors for her to prosper. You won’t see her picture on the front of a Wheeties box, and advertisers aren’t flocking to sign her. Winning this battle is going to be far more difficult for Claressa than a boxing ring ever was.
Another Simple Favor (2025)
Seven years after A Simple Favor, Another Simple Favor is a sequel released as an Amazon Prime Original. In the second film, Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) reunite on the Italian island of Capri for Emily’s wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman.
But as is necessary at any glamorous European wedding, there is murder and betrayal afoot! Stephanie and Emily are once again at the center of a dark, twisting mystery that consumes the beautiful Mediterranean island.

Fountain of Youth (2025)
Director Guy Ritchie must have really wanted to make an Indiana Jones movie, and that’s kind of what he did with Fountain of Youth, but with a lot of The Mummy thrown in. Natalie Portman stars as Charlotte Purdue, a genius who is very unhappy with her life as a museum curator. So it’s just as well that her older brother, Luke Purdue (John Krasinski), just cost her that job by stealing a painting out from under nose. Luke is an archeologist with a bad reputation, but he’s got the backing of a dying billionaire, Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson), to track down and locate the fabled Fountain of Youth. After Luke ropes Charlotte into their quest, the reunited siblings have to deal with an enigmatic woman named Esme (Eiza Gonzalez), who is determined to get to the fountain before they can.
The Gorge (2025)
Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller star in The Gorge, a sci-fi dystopian thriller. Appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast, highly classified gorge, two operatives grow close to one another as they protect the planet from an undisclosed, mysterious evil lurking within the gorge.
After bonding from a distance, their connection is tested when a cataclysmic event finally rattles the gorge and threatens to release the evil upon the world.
Fly Me to the Moon (2024)
The rare film to be made by another studio and get a theatrical release before landing on Apple TV+, Fly Me to the Moon had some modest box office success this summer. Marketing pro Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson) is brought in to fix NASA’s public image problems as the agency prepares for its most important mission to date: putting a man on the moon.
All this messaging wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’ (Channing Tatum) worksite. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, suddenly both Jones and Davis have another job. They must stage a fake moon landing, just in case the real one doesn’t pan out.

The Last Showgirl (2024)
Pamela Anderson may not have been rewarded with an Oscar nod for her performance in The Last Showgirl, but she proved that there’s more than she can do as an actress in the twilight of her career. Anderson plays Shelly Gardner, a Las Vegas showgirl who has starred in the same revue for three decades. It’s her life and the only thing keeping her going. That’s why Shelly’s life is shattered when she learns that the revue is shutting down and she has nowhere left to go. There aren’t a lot of options in Vegas for an aging showgirl, and Shelly’s desperation is palpable. But her best friend, Annette (Jamie Lee Curtis), repeatedly proves that there’s still further to fall. Shelly also makes an attempt to reconnect with her estranged daughter, Hannah Gardner (Billie Lourd), but that’s just one in a long line of relationships that Shelly torched in favor of the show. That bill has come due, and Shelly has no idea if she has any kind of future ahead of her.
Summer of 69 (2025)
This Hulu original teen comedy stars Sam Morelos as Abby Flores, a nerdy high schooler who spends her days playing video games and fantasizing about her crush, Max Warren (Matt Cornett). So, when she discovers that Max is finally single in the last week of school, Abby goes all out to get a date with Max.
Through her one and only confidante, Abby learns that Max’s favorite sex position is 69, so, naturally, Abby hires a local stripper named Santa Monica (Chloe Fineman) to teach her everything she needs to know about sweeping Max off his feet and onto his back.
Netflix
Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)
Fear Street: Prom Queen is the loose continuation of R.L. Stein’s teen horror franchise after Netflix pumped out three Fear Street flicks in 2021. You don’t need to have seen any of those to understand what’s happening in this throwback story to 1988. Teenager Lori Granger (India Fowler) is the focus here, and she’s tired of being a social outcast because everyone thinks her mother murdered her dad. Lori is out to change everything by earning the prom queen title, even though her rival, Tiffany Falconer (Fina Strazza), isn’t going to simply let Lori take it from her. However, these young ladies have a much bigger problem than each other. A masked serial killer is methodically taking out victims at the prom, and at the rate things are going, either Lori or Tiffany could be next on the hit list.
I’m Still Here (2024)
Winner of last year’s Best International Film Oscar, I’m Still Here is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s best-selling memoir of life under military dictatorship in 1971 Brazil.
As the power of the dictatorship reaches its height, the Paiva family — Rubens, Eunice, and their five children — are no longer safe in their beachside house in Rio that serves as a community center for all their friends. When Rubens is taken for questioning and does not return, Eunice must reinvent herself and her family.
Paddington in Peru (2024)
The third film in the delightful live-action Paddington franchise finds the lovable bear and the Brown family going overseas! Determined to find his aunt and solve the mystery of her disappearance, in true Paddington fashion, he might just stumble across something even more special along the way.
Max (formerly HBO and HBO Max)
The Brutalist (2024)
Nonetheless, The Brutalist is true cinema, following László Toth’s (Brody) escape from post-war Europe to America to rebuild his life, work, and marriage to his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) after the chaos of war. When prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce) notices his talent for building, his life goes on a very different path.
Babygirl (2024)
This A24 film examines intergenerational sexual dynamics in the workplace to the point of essentially being an erotic drama, albeit with more brain and less lust than 50 Shades of Grey.
Romy (Nicole Kidman) is a high-powered CEO with a beautiful family, but she puts all of that at risk when she enters into a submissive affair with her 21-year-old intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson). With all the power at her disposal, Samuel simply assumes (correctly) that Romy wants to feel powerless.
Companion (2025)
Sophie Hatcher stars in Companion as Iris, an AI robot that was custom-created to be a companion to her boyfriend, Josh (Jack Quaid). But when she realizes that fact during a weekend getaway at a secluded lakeside estate, her sudden sentience leads her to start making her own decisions.
Soon, the group of friends she’s with is entangled in a web of secrets and deception keyed off by a clever robot determined to make them look at themselves in the mirror.
Paramount+
Novocaine (2025)
Jack Quaid jumps from The Boys to another superhero-adjacent project in Novocaine, an action-comedy about everyman Nate (Quaid), who has an extraordinary inability to feel pain. \So, when the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, he decides to turn that curse into a strength as he goes into the jaws of the beast to get her back and prove his valor. Of course, nothing is ever easy.
Better Man (2024)
The biggest box office flop of the year and one of the biggest ever, Better Man, grossed just over $20 million worldwide against a $110 million budget. The extraordinary loss is much more on marketing failures, however, than on the actual quality of the movie, which has received good reviews. Based on British pop star Robbie Williams’ rise, fall, and resurgence, Williams made the somewhat bizarre call to cast himself as a CGI monkey in the largely autobiographical film.
While the film is about the challenges of fame and success, the greatest irony is that Williams was nowhere near a big enough star to make a film like this in the first place.

The Ugly Stepsister (2025)
In a fairy-tale kingdom where beauty is prized above all things, young Elvira (Lea Mathilde Skar-Myren) is forced to compete with her more beautiful stepsister (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) for the attention of the handsome prince. But after being brainwashed into an obsession with beauty herself, Elvira will go to any length possible to be beautiful.
